All-Star CTF Overview
Welcome to All-Star CTF, an enormous collaboration between some of the largest names in the
CTF community. All-Star CTF is an integration of Threewave CTF,
ThunderWalker CTF, CTF Plus!, the CTF Expansion Project, Expert CTF, Midnight CTF, and the
new Xeno CTF. A new
start map allows players to choose from 11 separate episodes, and the combined client
supports all of the custom features, models, skins, and sounds from all of the previously
mentioned projects. An innovation in its own right, All-Star CTF is also serving as
the premiere of ThunderWalker version 4.0, CTF Plus! version 2.0, and Xeno CTF version
1.0.
The Xenocide Flag Academy
will be coordinating this project and Dakota's Frontline News will serve as the official source of All-Star CTF
updates and news.
Installation
instructions
The installation of All-Star CTF is fairly
simple. The most difficult part of the installation is making sure that you have all of
the files you need. To play this mod, you will need the most recent versions of the
following games:
CTF 3
CTF 4
The CTF Expansion 1.4
ThunderWalker 3.1
If you have previously downloaded these mods, great. If not we recommend that you download
the zip files that we have created of them. The contain all of the original elements, but
do not use the .pak format. We have done this because of some confusion that has arisen
over pak numbers. If you need any of these .zip files, download the appropriate file from
this list:
ctf3.zip
ctf4.zip
ctfep.zip
twctf1.zip
Additionally, you must have the following file:
alst100c.zip
This contains the new files needed for ThunderWalker 4.1, Xeno CTF 1.0, and CTF Plus! 2.0.
Once you have dowloaded all of the necessary zip files, you must install them on your
computer. To install these files, use one of the many great unzip programs to unzip these
files into your Quake directory. Make sure that the program retains the file structure of
the zip file.
The
Episodes
All-Star CTF version 1.0
contains 11 separate episodes of CTF levels. Below is a list of the episodes and a
description of how to access the episodes from the new start map. As with Threewave
CTF 4.0, each player is allowed to vote for an episode from the start map by using a
slipgate.
E1 - First episode of the id
levels; use the slipgate in the center of the left wall of the main room.
E2 - Second id episode; use
the far left passage along the back wall of the main room.
E3 - Third id episode; use the
far right passage along the back wall of the main room.
E4 - Fourth id episode; use
the center passage along the left wall of the main room.
DM - The id deathmatch levels;
use the lower passage along the back wall of the main room.
CTF 3 - The first Threewave
CTF episode; use the far right passage along the left wall of the main room.
CTF 4 - The second Threewave
CTF episode; use the far left passage along the right wall of the main room.
TW - There are two episodes of
ThunderWalker levels; use the center passage along the back wall to access both. The first
episode is the first doorway, and the new TW 4.1 levels is further down the hall.
CTF EP - The CTF Expansion
Project levels; fall through the hole blown in the left wall of the main room.
Xeno CTF - The Xeno CTF
levels; jump into the airshaft through the archway in the right wall of the main room.
Credits
All-Star CTF is a collaborative
effort between many individual projects. Credit for the contributors to each component of
All-Star CTF is given within the .txt files for that project. I would like to thank each
of the projects and then a few individuals who helped coordinate this effort.
Threewave CTF - This is project is not associated with Threewave
CTF, but I would like to thank David "Zoid"
Kirsch for the creation of Threewave CTF and for his help on this project. Zoid has
worked tirelessly on many projects and has left the Quake community a better place.
ThunderWalker CTF - The most popular of the CTF mods, the ThunderWalker team has gone out
of their way to tie the release of TW 4.0 with All-Star CTF. Marc Rittierodt helped the project in
countless ways, including the new start map.
Expert Quake - The Expert team went above and beyond the call of
duty by allowing two of their custom CTF maps to be temporarily used in Xeno CTF. This
selflessness exemplifies the sprit of cooperation that is All-Star CTF.
CTF Plus! - The members of this ongoing project have been very
helpful and understanding, despite the fact that the All-Star CTF timeline prevented them
from having every aspect of their project complete before the first release. Like
Expert Quake, CTF Plus! graciously donated two custom CTF maps for Xeno CTF.
The CTF Expansion Project - Special thanks to Hanzo for
becoming a member of team All-Star at the very beginning and helping to pursued other to
join.
Midnight CTF
- Despite an incredibly busy schedule, Dr.
DooM has been an integral part of All-Star CTF.
Special thanks to Marc Rittierodt of ThunderWalker CTF. Marc
created the new start map for All-Star CTF and designed the entire installation procedure,
all while he was also coding version 4.0 of ThunderWalker. I purposely downplayed his role
in the project before its release because the prejudice harbored by many against TW.
However, Marc is very talented coder and his participation in All-Star CTF was
greatly appreciated. This project would not have gotten off the ground without him.
I would also like to thank the
members of the Xenocide Trinity. With the
exception of a few rash decisions on my part, the members of the Trinity made each
decision on this project together.
